Why Vernon House.....?

Hi I'm Simon Roberts and chosen to tell you a little about Vernon House!

We've always had a name for our offices instead of numbers,
so we wanted to choose a new name for our new home.

Many names were considered and all these were very inspirational and
in some way described us as a business, however I kept coming back
to one name, a name that was inspirational to me personally....

See, Vernon Roberts was my Dad, my true inspiration the whole reason
I started the business and the main reason I persevered through the
difficult times businesses often go through.

Vernon John Roberts, was born in the Rhonda Valley in Wales and
worked from the age of 13 including working in the Mines, throughout
his working life he had a philosophy of hard work, there was no such thing
as a free lunch Son.

Through a variety of Careers, from Anaesthetist in London Hospital
(where incidentally he met my mum Margaret Roberts), through to lorry
driver, Gas Board debt collector and eventually through his classic hardwork,
he worked his way up through to management in British Gas in London.

His passion was Football though, and was a successful football manager
including Wycombe Wanderers (who strangley enough his grandson whom
he hardly knew now plays for..!) what a weird world.

There were five children in our family of which I was the youngest so Dad
always had his hands full (think it was mum really though). but we always
put us kids first, holidays and things we needed is what he worked for,
and boy were they long hours.

Dad was one of the first heart bypass operation patients in the legendary
Harefield Hospital and was operated on by the now world renowned surgeon
Sir Magdi Yacoub. After 2 heart bypass operations and winning yet another
personal battle of cancer, Dad decided to retire.

On his last day at work we sent him on his way to London in a chauffeur
driven Mercedes.

After much ill health - and incredibly still no complaints Mum and Dad
retired to a small village just near Dorchester, where Dad enjoyed Golf
and cricket.

Sadly though Dad died suddenly and unexpectedly whilst retrieving his golf clubs
from his little car. We know he had a good round of golf though as he had plenty
of cash in his pocket as winnings from little wagers on the green no doubt....!!


Every phone call with my dad during the start of ASG was all about what I was
doing and the new contracts we'd won and constantly advising and reassuring
me of the best ways of good old fashioned business.

"Business is only good, when both you and
the Client benefits from the relationship..."

How true is this often forgotten statement today?

See he was my inspiration, the reason I started the business, its his
philosophies I still use everyday in our business even 23 years later.

Its an educate and inform philosophy, one were we'll educate you so you
can make an informed decision about something, whether it means
placing an order or not.


And there you have it....

I named our new building after my Dad, and yes my mum cried her eyes
out when I took her there this Christmas for the first time to show
her the building.....
