Bourton Leisure Centre
Access Control & Automation Install
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, Bourton Leisure Centre is a hub for community health and fitness. Offering a state-of-the-art gym and a 25m four-lane pool swimming pool, the centre caters to both locals and visitors seeking to maintain an active lifestyle.
Recognising the need for improved inclusivity, the leisure centre committed to upgrading its facilities by introducing a “Changing Places” environment – a fully accessible disabled changing facility designed to accommodate individuals with a range of disabilities, including those requiring assistance from carers.
Project Brief
ASGuk was commissioned by Swindon based contractor Edmont to design and install a specialist, automated interlocking access control solution for a multi door changing place environment.
The key objective was to integrate an advanced two-way interlock system with automation, allowing users to securely access the changing room from either the corridor or the poolside while ensuring both entry points remained locked when the facility was in use.
Design & Specification
Following an initial design meeting ASGuk were able to draw on their 30+ years of experience to design a fully bespoke automated door control system which provides automated access to the changing room from either the corridor or the poolside when the room is vacant. When the room is in use the system ensures that both entry points remain locked until free exit is initiated. A safety alarm system was designed in to the solution, notifying staff of a potentially dangerous scenario. Bespoke controls were designed, manufactured and installed by ASGuk capable of handling the challenging poolside environment.
The Label UK NEXT 120S automatic swing operators was specified for the automation. The key features of the NEXT 120S are:
- Market leading reliability and energy efficiency.
- A slimline 1 profile for seamless integration into door header.
- A brushless motor to enhance durability and reduce maintenance.
- Extremely quiet operation.
- Customisable finish – including RAL colour and anti-corrosion paint.

Installation & Delivery
The completed Changing Places facility now provides a modern, fully accessible space that supports the diverse needs of Bourton Leisure Centre’s visitors. With secure two-way interlock functionality, an upgraded assistance alarm system, and cutting-edge automation, users can confidently and easily access the facility.
The addition of these inclusive changing facilities aligns with the wider Active Cotswold programme, which promotes health and wellbeing initiatives across the region. Speaking about the improvements, Lee Thomas, the regional manager, emphasised:
“Improving residents’ access to health and wellbeing facilities is part of our wider Active Cotswold programme. These new Changing Places facilities represent a significant step towards ensuring everyone in our community feels welcome and supported at Bourton Leisure Centre.”
