Throckmorton Airfield

Bi-directional Traffic Management System

Hudson Kapel are an innovative and focused, market leading vehicle remarketing specialist with multiple sites across the United Kingdom. Hudson Kapel has been remarketing damaged and non-running vehicles for over two decades, serving as trusted partners to major UK rental, leasing, and corporate enterprises.

Hudson Kapel required a bespoke, bi-directional traffic management system for their Worcestershire site, Throckmorton Airfield, which could deliver improved safety and security without impacting business efficiency.

Project Brief

ASGuk were instructed to design and install a brand new bi-directional traffic management system which could effectively manage motor traffic in and out of a Hudson Kaptel’s Throckmorton site.

The existing solution, a singe set of double manual gates, was not fit for purpose. Manual operation was inefficient and unsecure during operational hours.

The primary objectives of the new system were:

  • Automated operation
  • Remote management
  • Improved security
  • Improved site safety

Design & Specification

As part of the design specification our technical sales team developed a bespoke, multi lane traffic management system proposal which created designated entrance and exit lanes, each with an automated traffic barrier linked back to the client’s security hub. From here each barrier can be programmed to open/close via vehicle detection, remote access fob or manual push button from within the security hut.

The FAAC B680 was specified as the best suited automatic barrier due to it’s market leading performance and competitive price point. The key features of the FAAC B680 are:

  • Outstanding quality, reliability and durability
  • Innovative drive technology
  • Adjustable opening and closing speeds
  • Extreme logistics optimisation
  • Approved for use with movement of person
  • Numerous input and output functions which can be configured by the user

Installation & Delivery

Delivery of this project presented a number of potential challenges. The barriers needed to be installed during normal site operational hours without disrupting business continuity. This was particularly challenging as there was no alternative entrance/exit. However ASG UK were able to overcome these challenges through careful project planning and by calling upon their wealth of experience.

Groundworks were aligned with Hudson Kapel’s operational patterns and collaboration with other contractors meant that all groundworks were completed without any disruption to site.

Staged installation, testing and commissioning of the barriers enabled Hudson Kapel to operate at 100% throughout the install process, an important client requirement.

The new multi lane traffic management system provides a designated controlled entrance and exit lane which can be managed 24 hours a day by the client’s security and operational teams. The automated barriers deliver a significant efficiency gain and a designated pedestrian lane separates people and vehicles, improving on site safety.
