Centralised CCTV and security hub for G-TEM’s UK plants
G-TEKT Europe Manufacturing Ltd (G-TEM) is an award-winning global manufacturer with over 25 years of expertise at the very front of automotive industry. Operating 29 production facilities worldwide, G-TEM specialises in the design, development and manufacture of advance vehicle components for some of the most recognisable automotive brands in the world.
G-TEM required a modernised approach to security allow them to manage their CCTV across multiple sites from either European headquarters in Gloucester. With a significant focus on not just security but also operational efficiency, G-TEM sought the expertise of ASGuk to design and install a bespoke, high-performance, centralised CCTV platform.
Project Brief
ASGuk was tasked with designing and implementing a centralised CCTV security system which can oversee and manage security at four key UK locations:
G-TEM Plant 1 (European Headquarters)
G-TEM Plant 2 – Ebbw Vale, Wales.
G-TEM Plant 3 – Tredegar, Wales.
G-TEM Plant 4 – Gloucester.
The primary objective was to enable all sites to be monitored from a single control room located at the client’s European headquarters while at the same time being accessible on any authorised machine.
Design & Specification
The design process saw ASG UK conduct a detailed assessment of the existing security infrastructure across all four sites in both England and Wales. From this assessment we were able to put together a comprehensive design proposal.
Hikvision Ultra Series network cameras were specified for both the internal and external cameras across all four sites. Hikvision Ultra Series are market leading network cameras equipped with durable hardware, advanced software capabilities, and the Hikvision Embedded Open Platform (HEOP) for third-party applications. Other key features include:
- Smart Hybrid Light technology.
- Variable, Ultra High Definition lenses.
- Variable intelligence & Self-Learning Analytics.
- Embedded Open Platform (HEOP).
Cathexis video management software (VMS), CathexisVision , was specified to enable G-TEM to connect, manage, monitor and analyse the cameras across all four sites from their security command centre based at their European headquarters in Gloucester. Installation & Delivery
Delivery of this project presented a number of potential challenges associated with working in live, 24 hour manufacturing plants. ASG UK were able to overcome these challenges through careful project planning and a wealth of experience. As a result there was no interruption to business continuity at any of the four sites during the entirety of the project delivery.
By consolidating monitoring to a single control room in Gloucester, the need for full-time security staff across multiple sites has been eliminated, resulting in substantial cost savings. Strategically positioned internal and external cameras have removed all previous security blind spots, delivering enhanced coverage and reinstated 24/7 perimeter protection across all four sites.
