Great Western Hospital (GWH) in Swindon, Wiltshire, is a major NHS hospital strategically located near Junction 15 of the M4 motorway. Since opening in 2002, the hospital has served a rapidly growing population across both Swindon and Wiltshire.
In recent years the hospital has benefited from significant investment which as seen ASGuk involved in the delivery of its new Urgent Treatment Centre and a £31.8 million redevelopment of its emergency and children’s emergency departments as part of the ‘Integrated Front Door’ initiative.
Project Brief
Working in partnership with Principle Contractor IHP and Main Contractor T Clarke, ASGuk was instructed with the supply and install of site wide access control and automated doors within the new Emergency Department and Children’s Emergency Department. The client’s primary goals were the improvement of patient and staff safety while ensuring a seamless flow of people through the departments.
Design & Specification
ASGuk’s wealth of experience in access control and automation within the healthcare sector made us a perfect fit for the delivery of the £31.8million Integrated Front Door project. We worked in close partnership with both IHP and T Clarke as early as the design and specification stage right through to commissioning and testing.
Keri System UK controllers and readers were specified for the access control, in keeping with the existing infrastructure present in the rest of the hospital. Keri Systems UK are global leaders in the manufacture of access control and security systems and ASGuk are proud to be the only Keri Major Systems Integrator in UK.
The Label UK NEXT 120S automatic swing operators was specified for the automation. The key features of the NEXT 120S are:

Installation & Delivery
This project saw us, over a near 12 month period, install over 50 access control doors, automated doors and anti-ligature doors to a number of different specifications, all integrated seamlessly into the hospital’s existing access control, fire and security strategy.
