Aluminium Door and Entry Control
Active Lifestyles Stroud is a community leisure centre operated by Stroud District Council, offering a range of facilities designed to support health, fitness, and wellbeing across the local community. The centre provides access to modern gym equipment, group exercise classes, and wellbeing programmes aimed at encouraging active, healthy lifestyles for people of all ages and abilities.
Stroud District Council commissioned ASG UK to design and install a replacement manual aluminium door set integrated with a new Paxton entry control system.
Project Brief
Stroud District Council identified a security vulnerability at the Active Lifestyles Stroud facility, where unauthorised access to the building was being gained via the rear entrance. To address this issue, a project was initiated to enhance site security through the installation of a new Paxton Entry Control System, fully integrated with the existing access control network and a replacement aluminium door set.
Objectives:
- Eliminate unauthorised access through the rear door.
- Improve overall site security and user safety.
- Ensure seamless integration with the existing Paxton system.
- Provide reliable and controlled access for authorised staff and users only.
- Upgrade end of life aluminium door set.
Scope of Works:
- Removal of the existing aluminium door set.
- Supply and installation of new aluminium door set.
- Installation of a Paxton entry control system and EN 1125 compliant locks.
- Integration and commissioning with the existing network.
- System testing and end-user training.
Design & Specification
The design for the aluminium door replacement at Active Lifestyles Stroud focused on improving accessibility, security, and durability while maintaining a modern, professional appearance consistent with the facility’s active and welcoming environment. The specification included high-performance aluminium double doors with thermally broken frames to ensure energy efficiency and long-term resilience under frequent use. Safety glazing was incorporated to provide visibility and natural light, enhancing both aesthetics and security. Overall, the design delivers a secure, accessible, and visually cohesive entrance that supports the operational needs and community-focused values of Active Lifestyles Stroud.
Paxton Net2 Door Entry System was specified due to it’s reliability, versatility and integration capabilities. The key features of the Paxton Entry System are:

An Exidor TB452 touch bar panic latch was specified as the exit device in order to comply with EN 1125. EN 1125 is the European standard that specifies the performance requirements and test methods for panic exit devices for use in public buildings where occupants may not be familiar with the escape routes. The standard ensures that doors fitted with panic hardware—such as touch bars or crossbars—can be opened easily and quickly in an emergency with a single, intuitive action, even under pressure or low visibility.
The Exidor TB452 was specified due to it’s market leading performance. The key features of the Exidor TB452 are:
- Market leading quality, reliability and durability.
- Electronic latch retraction integrated with access control.
- Certified in compliance with EN 1125.
- Durable construction tested for high cycle life
Heavy duty capacity for doors up to 2,440mm high and 200kg in weight.
Installation & Delivery
The installation was carefully planned and executed within a 24-hour period, ensuring the building remained secure at all times. Detailed scheduling and close coordination with Active Lifestyles Stroud’s management team allowed works to be completed efficiently, with critical tasks carried out during off-peak hours to minimise any impact on daily operations. Temporary security measures were implemented throughout the process to maintain full site safety and security. Installation was coordinated around the leisure centre’s operating hours, allowing the facility to continue running smoothly with no disruption to staff or visitors, and ensuring a seamless transition to the new door set and access control system.
Following completion of the installation, a comprehensive client training and handover session was carried out to ensure the Active Lifestyles Stroud team were fully confident in operating the new door set and access control system. The session covered system functionality, user management, and routine maintenance procedures, with hands-on demonstrations provided for key staff members. All relevant documentation, including user manuals, warranty details, and maintenance schedules, was supplied as part of the handover package. This ensured the client had complete understanding and control of their upgraded security system from day one.
